Mary Moser's A Vase of Flowers

Celebrating Mary Moser 1744-1819.

One of only two female founding members of the Royal Academy, Mary Moser was a celebrated English Painter. Despite being excluded from the necessary training in anatomy, because studying life drawing was too immodest for women, she was a brilliant portrait and historical painter. However, it was her talent in painting flowers that made her most recognised, and which even earned her several royal commissions.

Despite being an active and committed founding member of the Royal Academy following Mary’s death it took a further 125 years before another woman was elected to full membership of the Academy.
